Gabriel Escobar, the United States envoy for the Western Balkans, stated that he failed to convince Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti to address the concerns of the West regarding the ban on the use of the Serbian dinar in Kosovo and Metohija.

„We need a solution. That’s why I asked the Prime Minister to suspend the decision while we, together with the European Union, that is the US and Kosovo, work on a long-term solution that would meet your needs. This involves electronic transfers in euros through the Kosovo system. But, for now, we need to do something urgently. Unfortunately, I failed to persuade him to do that,“ Escobar said in an interview with Radio Free Europe.

Escobar, after a meeting with Kurti in Pristina on Thursday, said that the issue of using the dinar in Kosovo is „an urgent humanitarian issue that must be resolved immediately.“

The Pristina government earlier today announced that Kurti, in a conversation with Escobar, stated that the decree of the central bank in Pristina to abolish payment transactions in dinars represents a „decision of an independent and professional institution“ and offered „cooperation“ in quickly resolving all issues within the government’s jurisdiction.
