Sednica SB UN prirodni put, zahtev Srbije opravdan

Diplomat Zoran Milivojević has today evaluated the announcement of Serbia that it will seek an emergency session of the UN Security Council due to the situation in Kosovo and Metohija, stating that it is a natural path in defense of state and national interests and a reminder of the binding Resolution 1244.

„It should be reminded that Kosovo is a United Nations protectorate, that UN Security Council Resolution 1244 is in force and binding, that UNMIK and KFOR operate in Kosovo and Metohija under the mandate of the United Nations, and that their main concern is security and stability,“ Milivojević told Tanjug.

Milivojević assessed that this time, security and stability are directly threatened with possible far-reaching negative consequences that could lead to an exodus of the Serbian people.

He believes that, after several recent actions by Pristina, which deny the right to a normal life, the situation is clear this time and there should be no problem in scheduling a session.

Speaking about the procedure for scheduling it, Milivojević says that the chairman is obliged to accept the request after which a vote is taken within the framework of the five permanent and 10 non-permanent members, adding that a majority of nine is needed to put Serbia’s request on the agenda.

„The balance of power is, if we talk about the positions of individual countries, in this case unfavorable for Serbia because, in addition to the three permanent members of Great Britain, the USA, and France, there are also countries that have recognized the independence of Kosovo such as Japan, South Korea, Switzerland, Malta, and Slovenia. If there is a desire on the part of the West and western centers of power to obstruct the session, they can impose a majority on us,“ added Milivojević.

„Attempt of Western centers of power to privatize the Kosovo issue“

He reminds that the chair is Guyana, which, as he says, also recognized the independence of Kosovo. However, Milivojević believes that circumstances are different this time and go in favor of holding a session, as can be seen from the latest statements of the Quint and the USA regarding the latest actions of Albin Kurti related to the dinar.

Their advocacy that the measure be repealed indicates that objective conditions have been created that we have not had so far for those countries to perhaps react in favor of the session being held. Milivojević believes that there is also a danger that we have witnessed for years, and that is the attempt of western centers of power to privatize the Kosovo issue and not allow it to go beyond their „competence based on the mediation of the European Union.“

„Because entering the global scene, returning to the Security Council is currently unfavorable for Western interests because it strengthens UN Security Council Resolution 1244 and the undisputed fact that Kosovo is not a state. This is everything that the West does not want,“ said Milivojević.

However, as he says, this time there could be a debate, which would, of course, lead to a division of views, which is nothing new.

„For Serbia, it is important to see what the situation is on the ground in political and strategic terms,“ Milivojević noted, adding that an extraordinary session would also show that Resolution 1244 is in force and binding, and for Serbia, that is crucially important because our most important argument is based on international law.

„Kurti’s most severe measures so far“

Milivojević also assessed that what is happening in Kosovo and Metohija now is a continuation of a policy that has lasted for two years with the Self-Determination and Albin Kurti in an attempt to impose the state of Kosovo by force, removing the state of Serbia, and, if possible, the Serbian people from those areas.

„This is, I would say, the strongest blow so far. It directly questions the lives of the Serbian people. And it creates conditions for an exodus. It is no coincidence that in recent months we have had over 10 percent of people who have emigrated in one way or another,“ Milivojević said.

As he said, Kurti is making an obvious attempt to try to round off and finish this process by force with the harshest measures so far, due to the uncertainty of what could happen in the coming period, due to changes in the EU, due to the Ukrainian crisis, due to changes in America, and so on.

Kurti, as he says, does not want to take any risks, because he has clearly had support for all the measures and actions he has taken so far.

„There have been verbal reactions, but never with concrete measures. Kurti has not felt any concrete measures that would call into question what he is doing in the field. He started with repression towards Serbs, with incursions with long guns, with those illegitimate, illegal elections held in the north of Kosovo and Metohija, with usurpation of property, with trials that are unlawful, without basis. There were never measures to stop all those activities,“ Milivojević observed.
